Article about intercultural light

[Share] light and people will find the way” Ella Josephine Baker.
Light and darkness are natural phenomena with symbolic and metaphorical meanings where obscurity is the mysterious source of light, making light the source of creation.
These energies surround human beings, and are part of us in every aspect of our lives, experiences allowing us to connect with each other.

Inspired by THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LIGHT, organised by UNESCO, we were interested in developing the meaning of intercultural light.
FORMATOVA [FORM OF MEETING AND TRANSMISSION OF VISUAL ARTS] has given itself the goal of highlighting interculturality by creating Intercultural Visual Form [IVF] – a spontaneous cultural event that, over the years, merges films and the public space through an intercultural perspective. To achieve this goal we project films across France, Belgium and Poland in areas we pass by everyday.
As a tribute to the aspirations of THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LIGHT, IVF’s subject for 2018 is “The Hidden Light”. This purposefully large theme permits artists to create personal, abstract or universal reflexions of interculturality.
Light like the public space is a ubiquitous, fundamental but unremarked aspect of modern society. Light is therefore a perfect subject to explore the ambitions and goals of FORMATOVA.
Our organisation, founded by Wieslawa Nowicka and Guillaume Kouao, has always encouraged different talents. With IVF, we ask filmmakers, artists and thinkers to submit a film: documentary, live-action, animation or any piece of audiovisual work that transforms the public space into an area of cross-cultural, artistic discourse.
With this transformation we ignite the interaction between cultures in the hope of inspiring mutual comprehension and unification…as the light.
